National Geographic magazine from December 1988 featuring holographic cover. On the front is an image of planet Earth,; on the back is a McDonald's ad with holographic "golden arches." The cover of the magazine includes the traditional ″National Geographic″ title plus a photo of the globe being shattered by a pulse laser..

The breaking Earth was chosen to symbolize the theme of the December issue of the magazine, which focuses on the fragile nature of the planet with articles the imperiled rain forest, nature conservation, threats to the arctic and population growth, among othersThe photo of the breaking Earth was made by shattering a Steuben crystal globe, the magazine reported, using a green laser light to produce the image.

The three-dimensional image of the hologram is produced by printing the photo with microscopic ridges - 20,000 per inch, on rolls of clear plastic.

(second hand copy) Summary

Revised to reflect technological advances and new applications, Practical Holography, Third Edition is a classic, comprehensive text suitable for anyone involved in holography, from the interested amateur to the practicing research scientist. At its most basic level, the book introduces the principles behind holography and takes the reader on a step-by-step course through the materials, equipment, and techniques required to produce their own holograms. The author takes a purely practical viewpoint, keeping the mathematical content to a minimum. Later chapters of the book form a valuable reference for research scientists working with holographic techniques in all applications.

Summary

Ultra-high resolution holograms are now finding commercial and industrial applications in such areas as holographic maps, 3D medical imaging, and consumer devices. Ultra-Realistic Imaging: Advanced Techniques in Analogue and Digital Colour Holography brings together a comprehensive discussion of key methods that enable holography to be used as a technique of ultra-realistic imaging.

After a historical review of progress in holography, the book:

Discusses CW recording lasers, pulsed holography lasers, and reviews optical designs for many of the principal laser types with emphasis on attaining the parameters necessary for digital and analogue holography

Gives a full review of current photosensitive materials for colour holography

Covers modern methods of analogue holography and digital holographic printing

Introduces mathematical and geometrical notation for horizontal parallax-only holograms and practical computational algorithms for the full-parallax case

Reviews systems and the image processing algorithms required to convert the raw image data to the format required by digital printers

Develops the physical theory of the holographic grating and the hologram

Provides an up-to-date review of illumination sources, including LED and laser diode sources

Written by the experts in colour holography, this handbook provides complete coverage of real-time colour holographic processes, including applications. The book covers not only the optics and theory behind such holographic systems, but also laser technologies, recording devices, data acquisition and processing techniques, materials for reproduction, and current and developing applications.

The ultimate tribute to the late princess of Wales Diana: a reflection hologram.
This is a very clean and bright silver halide reflection hologram on glass. The glass is taped with black tape on the edges.
Hologram glass plate size 30 cm x 40 cm. It comes framed in a aluminium frame, overall size framed approx 31 x 41 cm.

Diana, Princess of Wales Hologram
1 x Silver Halide Glass Plate Hologram. Produced by Advanced Holographics laboratory in Loughborough UK in Limited Edition of 50 copies.
The Who's drummer Keith Moon funded this lab and the lasers that were used to record this hologram were the same Krypton lasers that were used in the Who's stadium rock concerts. So this hologram is a true example of great English Heritage.

This sale is for one hologram only. This copy however is one of the ten best that were produced.
Silver Halide Glass Plate Hologram made from a great quality model from Madame Tussauds.
Production date unknown but most likely after her death in the car crash in Paris on 31 August 1997.
This reflection hologram is monochrome in colour it has a an orange, yellow, or green coloured image depending on the angle it is viewed under, please see pictures for reference.
The image of Diana is 1:1 size. Her lovely hat floats out of the image, about 12 cm from the glass plate. One small scratch on the top of the plate about 3 cm, not visible under normal display conditions.Because the hologram is recorded with laser light: tiny laser speckle from the reflection of her pearls can be seen on the image.
These holograms were hand copied so each one has it's own unique features.
This copy is one of the cleanest and brightest from the 50 that were made. Another copy of Diana has recently been added to the collection of the London Science Museum. This hologram must be lit by a lightsource at a 45 degree angle to be viewed. A halogen or led lamp equal to 50 watts with a 30 degree angle works best. I can provide detailed instructions to the buyer.
This hologram in this condition, is very rare and has a proven museum quality.(another copy is in the London Science Museum Collection) It will make a great addition to any Diana memorablia-, portraiture- or hologram-collections.
The huichol skull was handmade by Peyote People in Mexico, and reflect the finer examples of Huichol Indian art.
Deep in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Western Mexico live the Huichol Indians. Very little is known about the exact origins of the Huichol, but today they are clinging to a set of customs and beliefs that make them one of the best preserved Pre-Columbian tribes in the Western Hemisphere. Bright and colourful bead art is one of their cultural traditions. These exquisite skulls are handmade by the Huichol Indian tribes and display the charms of this art form.
This skull evokes the skull tradition of the Mexican Day of the Dead festival.

Vanitas: Allegory of the Vanities of Human Life

Vanitas is a category of symbolic works of art, especially those associated with the still life paintings of the 16th and 17th centuries in Flanders and the Netherlands, Vanitas is the Latin for Vanity, in the sense of emptiness or a worthless action. Paintings executed in the vanitas style were meant to remind viewers of the transience of life, the futility of pleasure, and the certainty of death. In this hologram objects which suggest human achievements like the book and violin, are related to reminders of mortality: the candle which has been snuffed out, rotten fruit, which symbolises decay; bubbles, which symbolise the suddenness of death; smoke and hourglasses, which symbolise the brevity of life, and musical instruments, which symbolise the ephemeral nature of life. The rare Roemer glass and the nautilus shell symbolise wealth. The candle and the hourglass also allude to the transience of life, and all the objects are dominated by the skull, a reminder of the certainty of death: the great leveller, which puts an end to all worldly achievements. 'Vanity of Vanities, all is vanity' (Ecclesiastes 12:8). The implication of these words is that all human action is transient in contrast to the everlasting nature of faith.
